Machine Readable Passports with Ten Years Validity Period

The Consulate General of Pakistan, Los Angeles has started issuing machine readable passports with TEN YEARS validity period, effective from 2nd January of this year. Now applicants can apply for these passports as per the following procedure. On payment of normal fee of $83, the passports with the ten year validity period shall be delivered in six to seven weeks. On payment of the urgent fee of $216 the passport will be delivered in two to three week.

The service has been started considering that there are only two Pakistani consulates in USA where machine readable passport facility is available. This required people, from all the West Coast states, as far as Alaska, to travel to Los Angeles for issuance of their MRP passports, every five years. The procedure required all the applicants to come personally for photographs and fingerprints, therefore, the Pakistani community requested for issuance of passport which are valid for ten year to mitigate the travel costs and ancillary expenditures. The new Consul General Mr. Hamad Asghar Khan after taking charge last month issued directions to immediately start issuing passports of ten year validity period, as per the request of the community. Issuance of five year validity passport shall continue as per pervious fee structure.
