Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh Meets U.S. Industry Leaders at Strategic Business Luncheon in Los Angeles

A select group of American entrepreneurs and industry leaders from California’s dynamic AgriTech, FinTech, and Entertainment industry hosted Mr. Rizwan Sheikh, Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States, for a business luncheon today in Los Angeles. He was joined by Consul General Asim Ali Khan.

The informal yet focused gathering served as a platform to exchange insights on innovation, investment opportunities, and cross-border collaboration under Pakistan’s evolving economic transformation framework.

The participants represented a diverse range of high-growth companies, including emerging technology firms, creative production houses, and venture-backed agri-innovation startups based across Southern California. Discussions revolved around mutual areas of interest, including data-driven agriculture, digital payments, streaming content partnerships, and regulatory facilitation for bilateral ventures.

Ambassador Sheikh, while thanking the hosts for their initiative, highlighted Pakistan’s rapidly expanding innovation ecosystem and underscored the country’s commitment to welcoming U.S. investors and entrepreneurs. He noted that “Pakistan is positioning itself as a regional hub of opportunity—linking Central Asia, the Middle East, and South Asia. With forward-looking policies, robust human capital, and special facilitation under the SIFC platform, we are ready to partner with U.S. businesses on high-impact, future-ready solutions”.

The Ambassador also emphasized the role of the Pakistani diaspora and professional communities in bridging commercial linkages. “We value the openness and entrepreneurial spirit of California’s innovation economy. We believe sustained dialogue like today’s can translate into actionable partnerships,” he noted.

The attendees expressed keen interest in exploring pilot projects, joint ventures, and collaborative storytelling formats that connect the two markets—particularly in climate-resilient agri-tech, blockchain-based finance, and culturally diverse digital media.

This engagement with U.S. corporate leaders  is part of the economic diplomacy efforts of the Embassy and the Consulate General under the Government of Pakistan’s Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) framework.

Ambassador Sheikh is currently visiting California and the thrust of his visit on  deepening economic collaboration between Pakistan and the U.S. West Coast.

Urdu Writers Society of North America Hosts Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh in Los Angeles

The Urdu Writers Society of North America hosted a special reception in Los Angeles in honor of Mr. Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States. Consul General of Pakistan in Los Angeles Mr Asim Ali Khan accompanied the Ambassador.

The event was held to celebrate the promotion of the Urdu language and Pakistan’s cultural heritage especially its vibrant literary and artistic traditions among the Pakistani-American community.

In his address, Ambassador Sheikh lauded Urdu Writers Society of North America for its dedicated efforts to preserve and promote Urdu language and Pakistan’s rich and diverse culture in North America. He emphasized the vital role of art and literature in building Pakistan’s true image abroad, fostering cultural pride and unity and deepening people-to-people connections.

Mr. Irfan Murtaza, President of Urdu Writers Society of North America and a renowned poet and artist, presented a specially commissioned painting titled “Bunyanun Marsoos” to the Ambassador.

The artwork symbolizes national unity, resilience, and Pakistan’s resolute stand for self-defence and sovereignty in the face of blatant Indian aggression.The Ambassador appreciated the artistic tribute to the leadership and people of Pakistan noting its powerful representation of Pakistan’s commitment towards peace, its historic victory in the recent war, and the unwavering spirit of the nation.

The event brought together prominent literary figures, artists, community members, and cultural enthusiasts from across California. It served as a meaningful platform to reaffirm the community’s commitment to Pakistan’s cultural promotion and national dignity.

Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh Chairs Business Roundtable with U.S. Entrepreneurs to Advance Pak–U.S. Investment Cooperation

The Consulate General of Pakistan in Los Angeles hosted a Business Roundtable, bringing together American entrepreneurs, investors, and business executives for an in-depth dialogue on trade and investment opportunities in Pakistan under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) framework.

The roundtable was organized  by Consul General Mr. Asim Ali Khan, Trade and Investment Counselor Quratulain Fatima and other senior officials.

In his keynote address, Ambassador Sheikh highlighted the transformation of Pakistan’s investment landscape through the institutional reforms and policy incentives announced by the Government under the  SIFC framework. He underscored the strategic imperatives underpinning Pakistan’s international engagements  to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) in priority sectors and invited American companies to take advantage of Pakistan’s expanding industrial base, youthful workforce, and competitive market access. The Ambassador apprised the participants about upward trajectory of Pakistan’s economy and international appreciation of government’s sound economic policies.

Consul General Mr. Asim Ali Khan welcomed participants and reiterated the Consulate’s commitment to facilitating business linkages, especially in California and the broader western U.S. region. He emphasized the growing demand for sustainable infrastructure, technology solutions, and agri-tech in Pakistan, opening wide avenues for U.S. innovation-led partnerships.

Ambassador Sheikh briefed attendees on the approval of 28 strategic projects in 2025 and transformed business friendly environment.

The participants were briefed on the incentives under the SIFC framework such as a 10-year tax holiday for SEZ investors, duty-free import of capital goods, 100% tax credit for IT exports, reduced 0.25% withholding tax on digital services, and fast-track investor visas.

The event showcased Pakistan’s modernized SEZ policy offering plug-and-play infrastructure and one-window facilitation to global investors, with service sectors like IT, logistics, and e-commerce now eligible.

During the conversation, Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh also emphasized the immense potential for collaboration between Pakistan and the United States in the entertainment and creative industries.

The launch of Pakistan’s Sovereign Wealth Fund was discussed as a co-investment vehicle pooling assets from key state enterprises to support SIFC-approved projects..

The roundtable also deliberately on strengthening bilateral cultural collaboration in the age of AI and digital media. The Ambassador highlighted that Pakistan’s vibrant cultural heritage, growing pool of talented artists, and expanding digital media infrastructure offer unique opportunities for co-productions, content licensing, and talent exchange. He invited U.S. filmmakers, studios, and streaming platforms to explore Pakistan as both a creative partner and an emerging production destination. He further highlighted the soft power of Pakistan’s media and entertainment industry in building bridges between communities, and nations, fostering mutual understanding, and unlocking new economic avenues through cultural diplomacy.

In his concluding remarks, Ambassador Sheikh urged American stakeholders to view Pakistan as a strategic investment destination and partner in building resilient, future-ready supply chains. He reaffirmed the Embassy and Consulates’ commitment to facilitating market access, regulatory navigation, and project-level matchmaking for U.S. investors.

The Roundtable marks a continuation of Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic  outreach under its “Rising Pakistan” narrative and builds on the momentum of recent engagements aimed at deepening economic diplomacy and private sector collaboration.

Pakistan-American Business Leaders Hosts Reception in Honor of Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh

Pakistan-American Chambers of Commerce (PACC) hosted  a Reception in Los Angeles  on May 18, 2025 in honor of Mr. Rizwan Saeed Sheikh,  the Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States. Prominent members of Pakistani-American business community and business leaders belonging to sectors including technology, logistics, apparel, food and beverage, construction, and venture capital joined the Reception and participated in the discussions.

The Consul General of Pakistan in Los Angeles, Mr. Asim Ali Khan and Trade and Investment Counsellor were also present on the occasion.

In his keynote address, the Ambassador  emphasized  significance  of Pak-U.S. trade and investment relations, noting that the United States remains Pakistan’s largest export destination, with total bilateral trade reaching USD 7.5 billion in 2024, and Pakistani exports to the U.S. accounting for nearly 20% of its global shipments. He reiterated commitment of the government to further deepen trade volume in coming years to the mutual benefit of both countries.

The Ambassador noted that Pakistan offers a dynamic and forward-looking investment environment, backed by competitive incentives, a young workforce, and growing infrastructure. He said that  “we are strategically positioned at the crossroads of South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East—serving as a natural trade and transit gateway to nearly half the world’s population within a 6-hour flight radius.”

The Ambassador  also underscored Pakistan’s progress under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), a whole-of-government initiative aimed at streamlining investment approvals, accelerating regulatory clearances, and promoting public-private partnerships. He invited American businesses to explore new opportunities in IT, agriculture, renewable energy, textiles, and manufacturing, adding that Pakistan’s startup ecosystem had attracted over $700 million in venture funding in recent years and continues to grow.

He noted that with over 64% of Pakistan’s population under the age of 30, Pakistan is not only a market of 250 million consumers—it is an innovation hub in the making. He emphasized that the Embassy of Pakistan in the United States and Consulate General of Pakistan in Los Angeles are committed to economic diplomacy that positions Pakistan as a reliable long-term partner for U.S. investors looking for scalable supply chains and entry points into emerging regional markets.

Participants discussed the importance of strengthening diaspora-led entrepreneurship, improving access to U.S. markets through better logistics and digital infrastructure, and fostering collaboration between U.S. chambers and Pakistani industry bodies such as TDAP, PSEB, BOI, and SMEDA.

In his remarks, Consul General Asim Ali Khan thanked the PACC leadership for their continuous efforts in building bridges between the business communities of both nations. He reaffirmed the Consulate’s commitment to supporting Pakistani entrepreneurs in the U.S. and connecting them with credible partners back home.

The PACC reaffirmed its continued support in organizing future delegations, investment forums, and trade promotion events, particularly in the California innovation corridor where many Pakistani-American entrepreneurs are already making their mark in Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, and San Diego.

Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh Chairs PAKAMTECH Council Meeting in Los Angeles; Highlights Diaspora’s Role in Advancing Pakistan’s Digital Agenda

The Pakistan-American Tech Council (PAKAMTECH) convened its formal session on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Consulate General of Pakistan in Los Angeles. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Mr. Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States, and was attended by Consul General Mr. Asim Ali Khan alongside more than forty distinguished members of the Council, comprising senior executives, investors, and entrepreneurs from across the U.S. technology ecosystem.

In his keynote remarks, Ambassador Sheikh underlined the strategic importance of the Pakistani-American technology diaspora in fostering deeper linkages between the innovation ecosystems of Pakistan and the United States. He expressed appreciation for the Council’s active engagement and reaffirmed the Government of Pakistan’s commitment to enabling a transparent, forward-looking, and investor-friendly environment for technology partnerships.

Key Outcomes of the Session:
Leadership Endorsement: The Council formally endorsed the appointment of Mr. Najeeb U. Ghauri as President of PAKAMTECH. Ambassador Sheikh welcomed the nomination and expressed confidence in Mr. Ghauri’s leadership to guide the Council’s strategic priorities.

Pakistan’s IT Sector Overview: Ambassador Sheikh provided an overview of Pakistan’s rapidly expanding IT industry, noting that IT exports exceeded USD 3 billion in FY 2023–24, with the United States accounting for over 70% of the export share. He highlighted Pakistan’s growing competitiveness in software development, BPO, fintech, AI, and cloud services.

Policy and Investment Incentives: Members were briefed on the robust incentives offered by the Government of Pakistan to support foreign and diaspora investment in the digital economy.

Ambassador Sheikh also acknowledged the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) in streamlining investor facilitation and approvals.

Approval of the 2025–2026 Roadmap: The Council unanimously adopted a one-year action plan focused on: Promoting Pakistan Tech Investment Conferences in U.S. innovation hubs, Facilitating C-level delegations of U.S. tech firms to Pakistan , Strengthening collaboration in emerging technologies including AI, cybersecurity, and health tech, Deepening engagement with U.S. venture capital and startup incubators.

In his concluding remarks, Ambassador Sheikh lauded the Council’s proactive engagement, describing PAKAMTECH as a key enabler in Pakistan’s broader digital diplomacy efforts. He encouraged members to remain closely engaged as trusted partners in promoting Pakistan’s technology potential globally and assured them of the Embassy’s full support in facilitating sustained dialogue and collaboration.

Celebration of the National Day of Pakistan in California

The Consulate General of Pakistan, Los Angeles hosted a Reception to celebrate the National Day of Pakistan. The event was attended by members of the Los Angeles Consular Corps, representatives of the U.S. State Department, local government officials, business leaders, academia, think tanks, Muslim advocacy organizations, representatives from various government agencies, entertainment industry, Mayors and distinguished members of the Pakistani-American community from Southern California.

In their remarks, speakers including the Regional Director of the U.S. State Department and the Chief of Protocol of the County of Los Angeles conveyed their warm messages of felicitations on Pakistan Day.

Speaking on the occasion, Consul General of Pakistan in Los Angeles, Mr. Asim Ali Khan highlighted the historical significance of March 23, 1940, when Pakistan’s founding fathers adopted the Lahore Resolution, laying the foundation for the creation of an independent Pakistan. He paid tribute to the sacrifices made in pursuit of freedom and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the ideals of its founder, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

The Consul General emphasized the strong and enduring relationship between Pakistan and the United States, underscoring shared values and interests. Alluding to the recent high-level contacts between the two countries, the Consul General reiterated Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen Pak-U.S. bilateral relations on the basis of mutual respect, mutual interest, and mutual understanding.

Highlighting Pakistan’s economic progress, Consul General noted that Pakistan, with a purchasing power parity economy of around $2 trillion and fifth-largest market in the world offers vast investment and trade opportunities. He noted that bilateral trade with the United States currently stands at $8 billion, with IT exports exceeding $1 billion. He pointed out that Pakistan’s robust government policies, young and dynamic workforce, growing middle class, strong infrastructure, revamped regulatory regimes and business-friendly environment make it an attractive destination for U.S. investors. He urged U.S. businesses to explore Pakistan as a lucrative destination. He also highlighted major sectors for investment in Pakistan including agriculture, mining, IT and energy sectors, as prioritized under SIFC framework.

The Consul General invited participants visit Pakistan to explore its rich cultural heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and unique hospitality. He described Pakistan as a crossroads of civilizations a hub for business, tourism, adventure, and a regional connector.

A painting exhibition was arranged on the occasion where paintings of Sadequain, Pakistan’s world-renowned artist, were put on display. The President of Sadequain Foundation, Dr. Salman Ahmed, in his remarks, shed light on the work of Sadequain and his role in the world of art and calligraphy. The guests greatly admired Pakistan’s cultural heritage and work of Sadequain.

State Treasurer of California, Mayors of Los Angeles and Artesia cities presented certificates of appreciation to the Consul General for strengthening bilateral friendly relations and people-to-people ties.

Concluding his remarks, the Consul General reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional and global peace and security, and its determination to eliminate the menace of terrorism. He expressed confidence in Pakistan’s resilience and capability to meet emerging challenges and continue on the path of growth and modernization.
