Flag Hoisting Ceremony at Pakistan House Los Angeles

A flag hoisting ceremony was held at Pakistan House – the Residence of Consul General of Pakistan in Los Angeles – today.

The ceremony was attended by notable members of Pakistani-American community from different parts of California. The event was also attended by Mayor of Artesia Mr. Ali Sajjad Taj, Mayor of Torrance Mr. George K. Chen and Member of Torrance City Council Mr. Asam Sheikh.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation from the Holy Quran. Consul General of Pakistan in Los Angeles Mr. Asim Ali Khan raised the national flag while the national anthem of Pakistan was being played. Special messages from the President of Pakistan Mr. Asif Ali Zardari and the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Muhammad Shehbaz Shairf were read out on the occasion.

Formation of the Overseas Pakistanis Youth Council (OPYC)

The Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) is pleased to announce the formation of the Overseas Pakistanis Youth Council (OPYC). We invite nominations from young members of the Pakistani-American community who are interested in joining this initiative.

The OPYC will serve as a dedicated platform to engage young overseas Pakistanis, promote their welfare, and encourage their active participation in national development. Members will also act as brand ambassadors of Pakistan in their respective countries of residence.

We encourage Pakistani-Americans residing within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Pakistan in Los Angeles (including Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington) to participate in this initiative.

Interested individuals who are currently studying or working in the U.S. are requested to submit their nominations by March 10, 2025, via email to apstocg@pakconsulatela.org.

Consul General of Pakistan in Los Angeles Meets Delegation of Business Incubation Centers from Punjab

A delegation of 16 Business Incubation Centers from various universities in Punjab, is currently visiting the United States under the Tabeer Exchange Program. This initiative aims to enhance the capacity of business incubation centers and expose them to global best practices in entrepreneurship.

As part of their visit to the Silicon Valley in California, the delegation met with Consul General of Pakistan in Los Angeles Mr. Asim Ali Khan to discuss opportunities for collaboration in the IT and technology sectors.

Welcoming the participants, the Consul General emphasized Consulate’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s IT sector and technology cooperation with the United States, highlighting that increasing Pakistan’s IT exports to the US remains a strategic priority. He underscored the Consulate’s role in fostering trade and investment relations, research collaborations, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

He also noted that the Consulate General of Pakistan in Los Angeles hosted the first-ever Pakistan-US Tech Investment Conference in Silicon Valley in November 2024 and it remains committed to supporting Pakistani entrepreneurs in expanding their reach in the US tech sector.
He highlighted that Pakistan’s IT sector offered abundant opportunities for enhancing collaboration with the Silicon Valley.

The visiting delegation thanked the Consul General for facilitating the engagement and expressed optimism that continued collaboration with the Consulate would contribute to Pakistan’s IT sector growth. They also shared ideas on expanding Pakistan’s footprint in industries such as healthcare, textiles, and business connectivity. The Consulate welcomed their proposals, and both sides agreed to pursue further cooperation.

The Consull General reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s IT and tech ecosystem by connecting Pakistani entrepreneurs with industry leaders on the US West Coast. The Consulate will continue to support initiatives that promote business growth, innovation, and cross-border collaboration.

The delegation comprises professors and entrepreneurs from leading Pakistani universities, including LUMS, UET Lahore, University of Gujrat, and Fatima Jinnah Women University. During the discussion, they shared key insights gained from their visit, particularly in technological innovation and entrepreneurship.Prominent entrepreneur and educator Mr. Naeem Zafar, who teaches entrepreneurship at the University of California, Berkeley, also participated in the meeting.

Members of the Los Angeles based Pakistan-American Tech Council also participated in the meeting, commending the delegation’s visit. They offered their expertise and networks to help accelerate entrepreneurship and innovation in Pakistan.

PRESS RELEASE: Seminar on the Occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day, February 5 2025

The Consulate General of Pakistan in Los Angeles hosted a seminar, to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day. The event, held at the Mission, saw participation from ethnic media representatives, experts, and prominent members of the Pakistani-American community. The seminar was dedicated to reaffirming solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK).

Consul General of Pakistan in Los Angeles, Mr. Asim Ali Khan, delivered a comprehensive briefing on the significance of Kashmir Solidarity Day, particularly highlighting the dire situation in IIOJK. He emphasized that despite India’s ongoing human rights violations against the people of IIOJK, their resolve remains unshaken. The Consul General reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering political, moral, and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people, advocating for the realization of their inalienable right to self-determination, in line with United Nations Security Council Resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He also read special messages from the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan to the attendees.

A documentary, illustrating the resilience of the Kashmiri people in the face of India’s brutalities and illegal occupation, was screened during the seminar. Leaders from community organizations, including Friends of Pakistan (FOP) and the Pakistan American Chamber of Commerce (PACC), also voiced their unwavering support for the oppressed people of IIOJK.

Dr. Farooq Ahmad, Professor of History at Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, and Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, Meritorious Professor of International Relations and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Quaid-i-Azam University, shared insightful remarks. They traced the historical roots of the conflict in South Asia, its far-reaching implications for regional peace and security, and the indifference and double standards of the international community, particularly major world powers.

The participants expressed their gratitude to the Consulate General for organizing the seminar and for raising awareness about the enduring dispute over Jammu and Kashmir. They reaffirmed their support for the just cause of the Kashmiri people and their commitment to standing in solidarity with them.

The Consulate General also raised awareness about the Jammu and Kashmir dispute through social media platforms, emphasizing the solidarity expressed by Pakistan and the overseas Pakistani community for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

New Altadena Disaster Recovery Center Has Now Opened

Office of Emergency Management (OEM) of the County of Los Angeles has informed that New Altadena Disaster Recovery Center has now opened. The center is located at 540 West Woodbury Road, Altadena, CA 91001.

Both the Pasadena and Altadena locations will be open through the end of January. However, beginning Saturday, 01 February 2025, the Pasadena locations will be closed and all services will be shifted to Altadena.

Various LA County Departments, California State Agencies and Federal Agencies will be available to assist at the new Altadena location.

Eaton Fire and Palisades Fire Updates

According to News Release issued by County of Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters continue to extinguish hot spots within the perimeter of the fire. The repopulation of residents is ongoing, with zones being released in phases to ensure safety of public and utility agencies.

Disaster Resource Center is open at Pasadena City College Community Education Center – 3035 E. Foothill Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91107.

Evacuation Point has been set up at Pasadena Civic Center – Green Street, Pasadena, CA 91101.

Information Regarding Los Angeles Wildfires Disaster Assistance and Donations

According to information from official sources, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and state, territory or tribal government may provide direct and financial disaster assistance to U.S. citizens, non-citizen nationals and qualified non-citizens.

Disaster assistance may include money for expenses not covered by insurance or other sources.

Qualified non-citizen includes Legal Permanent Residents (“Green Card” holders); Non-citizens granted asylum; Refugees; Non-citizens whose deportation status is being withheld for at least one year; Non-citizens paroled into the U.S. for at least one year for urgent humanitarian purposes or significant public benefit; Certain battered non-citizens or their spouses or children; and certain victims of a severe form of human trafficking.
